This week’s Tasting Highlights features recent reviews from across the West Coast, including Napa Valley Merlot, Willamette Valley sparkling wine, Washington Cabernet and more. Priced at $35 or less, with substantial case volumes, these are great finds that will please any crowd while being easy on your wallet.
Starting with bubbles, Mumm Napa made its first California sparkling wine in 1983 under the label Domaine Mumm. Its parent Reims-based Champagne house, G.H. Mumm, has been a dependable producer since 1827. For this non-vintage blanc de blancs, winemaker Tami Lotz blends vintages to create a consistent house style. This version shows a creamy and rich side with baking spice accents. Also featured is an easygoing and light-footed brut rosé from Argyle in the Willamette Valley.
This lineup also includes the zesty and plump Terra D’Oro Zinfandel Amador County 2022 and the handsomely structured Oberon Merlot Napa Valley 2023. Read on to get our scores and full expert tasting notes for all nine of these West Coast values!
