When they agreed to collaborate on a Bordeaux-style blend crafted from the fruit of Napa Valley vineyards, Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s partnership and resulting brand deal started a revolutionary business model for the wine world that would be replicated a hundred times over. Opus One has gone through myriad changes since its first vintage; senior editor James Molesworth, lead taster for California Cabernet, sat down for a retrospective vertical tasting of all 45 vintages from this iconic brand to explore the evolution of this masterful Napa Valley red.
